When We See a Problem, We Solve It!

We see a problem, we develop a plan, and then we solve it. That's how real change happens.

On Saturday morning, while mowing my lawn, I was approached by three young men raising money for their youth basketball team. As we talked, they shared something

that caught me by surprise: they were traveling all the way to Buffalo just to practice. For many people, that might have simply been an interesting conversation. But I've never been one to walk past a problem when there's an opportunity to help solve it. After making a donation, I reached out to the team's owner, Chet Bradley, to learn more about their situation.

The more we talked, the more inspired I became to see what could be done. I made a few phone calls and connected with the incredible Ramona Serianni, who graciously invited the team to participate in our upcoming community outreach event. What happened next is exactly what can occur when people come together with a shared purpose and a willingness to serve. Not only were we able to raise additional funds for Chet and his players, but through the collective efforts of community members and local leaders, we were also able to help secure a gym right here in Niagara Falls for the team to call home. That's the power of community.

Too often, we spend our time talking about the challenges we face. We discuss the problems. We debate the causes. We point fingers and assign blame. But progress doesn't come from talking alone. Progress comes when ordinary people decide to take action. This experience reminded me that some of the greatest solutions don't come from government programs or large institutions. They come from neighbors helping neighbors. They come from people who are willing to answer the call when a need presents itself.

I am incredibly grateful to be surrounded by a community of individuals who serve others through prayer, food, encouragement, mentorship, and generosity- regardless of race, regardless of background, and regardless of belief. That spirit of service is what strengthens communities. It creates opportunities for our young people. It builds relationships. It restores hope. And it reminds us that we are stronger together than we could ever be apart. As Scripture reminds us:

"Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:18

Those words challenge us to move beyond good intentions and put our faith into action.

When we see a need and answer it with action, we don't just change a moment. We help change a community.
