Heart of the City Forum: Building a Better Niagara Falls Together

One of the greatest strengths of any community is its willingness to come together, have honest conversations, and work toward meaningful solutions. That spirit was on full display at this month's Heart of the City Forum, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to attend.The purpose of the Heart of the City Forum has always been simple: create a space where residents can hear directly from community leaders and candidates, ask important questions, and engage in respectful conversations about the issues that impact our daily lives. Throughout the evening, we discussed topics that matter to families across Niagara Falls, including child care affordability, rising gas and electric costs, economic development, public safety, neighborhood revitalization, and the future of our city. These are challenges that affect every resident, regardless of political affiliation, and they deserve thoughtful, solution-oriented discussions.

I want to extend my appreciation to our panelists- Rebecca Wydysh, candidate for the 145th New York State Assembly District; Kalinda Washington, candidate for the 135th New York State Assembly District; and Chris McKimmie, candidate for the Niagara County Legislature's 3rd District. Thank you for sharing your perspectives, answering questions from residents, and participating in an open dialogue about the future of our community. Most importantly, thank you to every resident who attended. Your questions, your ideas, and your willingness to engage are what make these forums meaningful. Democracy doesn't begin on Election Day- it begins when neighbors come together to listen, learn, and participate in the decisions that shape their community. One of the biggest takeaways from the evening was that, despite our differences, we all share many of the same goals. We want safe neighborhoods, stronger local businesses, quality schools, opportunities for our children, and a city that continues to move forward. While we may not always agree on every solution, we can agree that Niagara Falls deserves thoughtful leadership, accountability, and residents who are actively involved in the future of our community.

This forum is just one step in an ongoing conversation. The work continues long after the chairs are folded and the lights are turned off. Together, we will continue asking tough questions, seeking practical solutions, and creating opportunities for residents to have a voice in the future of Niagara Falls.
